You are most welcome to join our Severn Spinners Kidderminster Worcestershire RC model Aero Flying Club as a member either as a ‘new starter’ in the hobby or as an ‘already experienced’ flyer. Why not give us a call or contact us via email or contact form.
We would be pleased to meet you at our FLYING field just outside of Kidderminster for a chat or you may wish to come along to one of our SOCIAL meetings where we meet in a local pub (see below for details). We are a friendly crowd and all very passionate radio control aviation enthusiasts.
■ CLUB – Brief Background (Established 43 Yrs)
Formed 1975 the Severn Spinners Radio Control Model Aero Flying Club celebrated it’s 25th Anniversary back in year 2000. We are therefore well established having now clocked up 43 years successfully surviving as a radio control model flying club. Based in Kidderminster Worcestershire with a membership of just below 50, it is true to say that our members are a very friendly
crowd. The members are always keen and willing to help or offer advice, or just to settle for a jolly good natter. When you meet us you will quickly realise we are a very happy and relatively easy-going club with members committed to various aspects of Radio Control Model Flying in one form or another. Please take a few moments to visit our About Us page where we provide a more in depth interesting history of the Severn Spinners flying club.
■ HAPPY BIRTHDAY Derrick (90th)
Have a great day – 13th March 2019
Best wishes and congratulations from all of your friends in the Severn Spinners Flying Club.
“Derrick has contributed a great deal to the club over many years of membership and of course it’s great for us all to have a celebrity in our midst. Derrick has appeared in a number of issues of RCM&E, showing off some of his superb creations and as the attached picture shows, also appeared with long time kindred spirit Mike, in the Kidderminster shuttle back in 2001”.

FIELD WIND VANE
The Wind Vane shown in the above short video, recently appeared at the field as if by magic. It is a complete mystery as so far no member has admitted or confessed with respect to the design build or installation. Given that it does seem to work ‘very well’ and can be replaced for a few pence, looks like it will be a pretty permanent fixture. Thank you Morris!

LIPO BATTERY Incident – Destroyed at the field 2018
■ LIPO Destroyed
It is TRUE – A LIPO Battery can be very dangerous if damaged. The video above shows a seriously damaged 6 cell LIPO as a result of an unfortunate model crash. It was considered unsafe to transport home in a vehicle and too unsafe to leave at the Flying Field. Therefore it was induced to self destruct by insertion of a screwdriver. Obviously there are other ways to deal with a damaged LIPO safely (not covered here). The motto is to always treat your LIPO’s with respect.
■ WEBSITE – Development
Members and Visitors please note this website for Severn Spinners Radio Control Models Society is still in an early stage of development with plenty of work left to do in terms of content, features and maybe an improved design concept look and feel. Visit our Website Matters page for more information about the site including the background, objectives, technical details and future plans. Our Radio Control Flying Club is based in Kidderminster, Worcestershire. Whilst we are making good progress, at this early stage much of the content ‘images and text’ included is temporary until more appropriate information is available. Contribution and feedback from both Committee and Members will be very much appreciated. Reminder – Text & images Text and images content is still being collated with the help of Club Members and other interested parties. Any member or friend of the club who can supply club history text and images and indeed if you have any constructive suggestions and ideas, would you please contact us via the committee or please feel free to use the club Contact Us form or our email address by clicking on the Contact Us link below.
We welcome interest in and visitors to our model flying club from Worcestershire, Wyre Forest, especially locally from Stourport, Bewdley, Worcester, Bromsgrove, Malvern, Redditch and also Stourbridge and Halesowen. Also please check out details of our monthly Social Meetings evening.
